Our specialist expertise, insight and experience means we are prepared and capable of responding to the complex, contentious, critical and simple. As a trusted advisor with a core focus on adding measurable value, our workplace risk consultancy can help your shopping centre or retail park function more efficiently with savings across a range of key risk competencies.

Proprietary slip resistance tests to reduce workplace injuries

One serious slip accident occurs every 3 minutes in workplaces around Great Britain, despite the  Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 which require all employers to ensure that floors do not pose a safety risk.

Slippery floors are caused by controllable factors (environment, floor material and contamination) or predictable factors (use, behaviour and footwear).

Whatever the cause of a slippery floor, accidents in your shopping mall can potentially be costly in terms of liability and lost workforce hours. Ark Workplace Risk now offers a new floor assessment service which is already revolutionising the way clients manage slip risks in the workplace. Our service tests the potential slip resistance of floors and provides a range of solutions to eliminate the risk, cutting out unexpected costs and making the workplace safer.  Contact us to find out more or arrange a slip resistance test on floors throughout your malls.

Make Savings On Water Hygiene Without Compromising On Risk Management

We understand that shopping centre water systems can be complex and involve large amounts of equipment and plant. But, because our consultants work exclusively with large and complex systems such as those found in NHS Foundation Hospitals, industrial sites and large shopping complexes, our specialist knowledge of water hygiene requirements means we work harder and smarter to find potential savings.

Many facilities managers mistakenly believe water tanks should be cleaned and disinfected on an annual basis. In fact, the schedule should be determined by inspection. If cleaning and disinfection of water systems is not required on an annual basis, significant savings can be made.

We offer a range of water hygiene audits and specialist services and solutions. For your peace of mind, all water management audits look at the effectiveness of the controls used to manage and prevent the growth of legionella bacteria as standard. They offer a comprehensive review of the control scheme and management structure in relation to water hygiene. We are a member of the "Legionella Control Association - Code of Conduct" and have the certificate. Contact us to find out more about our water hygiene services and potential cost saving measures.

Fire Safety in Shopping Centres

Did you know that the introduction of RMU’s in Malls can provide an opportunity for enhanced income for landlords but requires an assessment of the effect on smoke management and means of escape.

Fire safety in shopping centres offer particular challenges not least because of the complexity of the fire safety systems in place as well as the presence of more than one Responsible Person in what is a multi-occupied site.

Ark Workplace Risk’s five step approach to fire risk assessment in the context of shopping centres includes;

  1. Identification of fire hazards
  2. Evaluation and reduction of fire risks
  3. Identification of people at risk
  4. Recording of information, plans and instructions
  5. Conducting ongoing reviews

The aim of the risk assessments should be to reduce the risk to as low as reasonably practicable. Contact us to find out more about how this can best be achieved.

Ark Workplace Risk is a market leader in the production of Fire Strategy documents and the preparation and testing of Emergency Plans for shopping centres. Contact us to find out more about fire strategy and fire risk assessments.

The London Olympics present particular challenges in emergency preparedness. Organisations failing to assess the impact on their operations risk disruption to business and potential loss of reputation. No corporate organisation is immune from potential disruption from events outside of their control.

At Ark we want to work with you to improve your resilience to deal with the unexpected in a manner proportionate to risk. Our specialist response team will assess your level of preparedness, adding value to your business processes and building confidence in your staff to deal effectively with any emergency. In the case of the London Olympics there are likely to be pressures on transport infrastructure, security in crowded buildings, traffic management and communications-both in the electronic and language sense.

Emergency Preparedness Testing (EPT)

Emergency Preparedness Testing is a process used by Ark to determine the effectiveness of the clients Emergency Risk Management Strategy and Procedures and to comply with the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work (Etc.) Act 1974, the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

The process involves a vulnerability assessment to determine the most likely events affecting the site, followed by a scenario based test on to determine the level and adequacy of control measures at all levels with recommendations for improvement on a prioritised basis.

We will assess the emergency preparedness response ability for the site against the following seven key emergency risk management goals:

  1. Initial response

  2. Controlling the  incident and preventing escalation

  3. Facilitating rescue and evacuation

  4. Protecting life

  5. Protecting the environment

  6. Protecting the asset

  7. Protecting reputation

If you would like a vulnerability assessment in preparation for the Olympics or are keen to ensure your emergency plans remain relevant and up to date, please contact us.
