Purpose of the position:

As the Principal Consultant - Fire Safety at Ark Workplace Risk, you will be responsible for working with a diverse range of clients, providing fire specialist consulting in the built environment. As part of the Consulting Management Team, you will provide leadership and support to a team of specialist consultants, ensuring they are aligned with the Ark vision and consistently deliver against SLA’s, ensuring clients are provided with a comprehensive and forensic outcome, in a timely manner.

Key accountabilities:

Technical:

  • Create fire strategy solutions for clients within the built environment and development (offices, shopping centres, retail, business park offices, high rise, residential and property development environment)
  • Deliver market leading health and safety advice as well as pragmatic and innovative solutions to clients
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise across the Ark safety product range
  • Participate in relevant external technical organisations, conferences and events to ensure you are at the forefront of all technical issues within your field, informing the business as an industry expert
  • Establish methods to guarantee compliance with all statutory regulations, ensuring Ark Workplace Risk is aware of and proactively adapts to any relevant changes in legislation
  • Support Senior Directors to ensure that Ark’s product suites, methodologies, professional services delivery and tools are fit for purpose, market leading and future proof
  • Support the Senior Director with creating methodologies and templates for providing consistent and repeatable services and products
  • Provide assistance in quality assurance management (QA) across the Professional Services team to ensure optimal and accurate results
  • Design fire management plans
  • Undertake fire risk assessment, type 1,2,3 and 4
  • Design and present fire strategies in line with client requirements and regulatory requirements
  • Design client programs and execute for preparedness tests for emergencies or safety events and test them
  • Providing coaching and support to other consultants with regards to technical fire advice
  • Responding to specific ad-hoc fire specialist requests from clients as required

Commercial:

  • Ensure delivery of fee earning targets and SLA’s (quality/ timely output of work assignments) as set by the Senior Director
  • Assist the Director - Fire, Risk, Health & Safety, Compliance in strengthening and scaling the Professional Services function: executing on the Company strategy with agility and professionalism
  • Provide technical client support to senior stakeholders as required

Leadership:

  • Provide day to day line management to a team of specialists, partnering with the Senior Leadership and HR to deliver across all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, coaching and development, performance management and engagement
  • Attract, retain and develop a high-performing team
  • Lead, manage and hold direct reports accountable for achieving agreed-upon commitments
  • Provide support and mentorship to guide employees to reach their full potential
  • Support senior leadership in developing and role modelling behaviours in alignment with our culture
  • Cultivate and manage collaborative relationships with the Consulting Management Team to drive success and alignment across the Professional Services division

Skills & Experience:

Essential:

  • Extensive experience undertaking fire risk assessments across a range of built environments and developments, including residential housing developments
  • Expert understanding of the framework of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, fire safety regulations 2006
  • Strong work ethic, creative problem solving and interpersonal skills, research and report writing abilities and good knowledge of the regulations
  • Demonstrated successful track record all the above key responsibilities
  • GIFireE or MIFSM as minimum required
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and business prioritisation with ease
  • Strong relationships management experience, paired with the ability to support clients with complex, contentious and critical matters

Desirable:

  • Either completed or working towards a Diploma in Fire Safety or equivalent
  • BSc in Fire Safety Engineering or Fire Engineering
  • Enforcement background
  • Expert witness experience/court attendance experience
  • Experience with international interpretation of fire safety

Additional requirements

  • This position will mainly be based in (and around) London, however will require national (and at times international) travel from time to time, so it is essential that the successful incumbent is available and willing to accommodate this
  • A 20% bonus is available
